what a terrrrible suggestion.
Not only it wouldn't accomplish anything - people would find lots of ways around it - but it would make only the trader NPC profit more, sinking more cash from ecomony. Just making things harder for most players, not only traders.
This crappy suggestion would hurt farmers even more than traders, making them have to sell straight to trader npc.
And most importantly -- there's NO problem with trading, except the lack of a centralized trading solution (marketplace or auction house).

Let's be fair. There's more than just "thinking a little" involved in being a successful powertrader. It takes a certain... let's call it "moral flexibility" to buy an Eternal Blade from someone selling it for 20k to resell it for 100k or whatever, rather than sending the guy a whisper and saying "Dude, that thing is worth way more than that"

Trading? I play the game to have fun: doing missions and quests and such. Trading doesn't bother me one way or the other.

How so? Just play the game and ignore the traders.

There is not a single reason for wanting rare items, except for bragging rights and good looks. If you can just get over your jealousy and play the game, the world would be a nicer place.

What we need to 'fix' trading are two simple things things:
- Better removal of items from the market. That includes:
* Better customization, so it becomes and option for caster weapons, and customization for things like shields and foci. So they get removed from market too.
* Item unlock like hats are, so people don't have storage problems and spend more cash getting materials too to get them. Miniatures that have limited sources (like those that are acquired only in giveaways) would have limited ones, and they would be deleted upon dedication, or hen unlocking them for the account, so they get destroyed and new room is made for them.
If we remove items from the market, space is made for new ones, and people may buy the new items, instead of just making items move around, decreasing in value the more new ones appear.
- Better market system, a fast one anyone can enter in-game. So people don't have to waste time selling.
A healthy market is one with a lot of transactions. A fast one.
Not one with few high-monetary transactions.
For the 'ecomoney', 1,000,000 trades of 1000 gold are better than 1000 trades of 1,000,000 gold.

And what are they supposed to get with all those ectos that they may get faster than me? SLIGHTLY different armour with the same max stats?
Trading hasn't made the game worse at all. It's the same game. You need about as much money in this as you did in Diablo 2.

/notsigned, that idea is ridiculous & flawed. We could all switch to lockpicks for trade currency.

Any odd tool can copy paste a farming build and use it.
It actually takes time and a lot of effort to become good at powertrading to get the numbers you're talking about, unless of course you get insanely lucky.
So yeah, no.

This could possible lead to a non-grinding state
How to achieve that:
1) remove all high end crafting materials, all armors are made with simple materials (the normal cheap ones)
This will lead to the question of how to make high end armor:
simple, complete quests and missions. we have 5 armor pieces, each piece requires you to complete a mission or quests and at the end of the mission an npc will "elitisied" your armor for you (remember how armor are being infused?)
This will "physically, in the pixel sense" change the outlook of your armor to an "elite" looking ones instead of just changing the name of the armor piece.
Just to promote pugging, you have to go with real life player or the npc will ignore you. (please remember I hate pugging :P~)
well just a thought. but i guess people love to grind.

Or any of a series of other items. Ectos (or other rare materials) are used because they are harder to get and hold their value relatively well.
If rare materials were removed from trade, you'd see people using:
1. Lockpicks.
2. Dyes.
3. Runes/Insignia.
4. Highly-demanded weapon components.
5. Minipets.
6. Consumables.
I could go on and on. Just because you shut off one valve doesn't mean that the high-end trading market would go away. People are innovative.

Clearly, the trader did more work then the farmer.
Any idiot can farm after pulling a build from PvXwiki. Heck, automated bots can farm. Power trading requires a ton of patience and extensive knowledge of the game, economics, and about human pyschology (knowing that a new minipet is being released for Canthan New Years is one thing; knowning how a large group of people is going to react to that in order to make profit is another). For every hour a bot or a power farmer repetitivly kills, a power trader has to spend two hours reading forums and staying informed about the community in order to make informed trades. Power trading requires vigiliance and a certain amount of expertise that not everybody can have.

I just got a mental image of a cold war between the farmers and the Power Traders...
The farmers decide to start dumping all of thier ectos, runes, etc... into the NPC traders, making slightly less, but causing their values to tank, so that the PT with 12 stacks of ectos takes a swan-dive off of the shiverpeaks.
Sure, recovery would come as a new currency is chosen, but the potential losses are staggering.
Of course, that would mean farmers would have to let go of their greed too, so it's never gonna happen. Makes for a nifty "What-if" style thought though.

Imo, this topic is as good as done, also, the op hasn't even replied in like 20 posts, so I think he was thrashed pretty bad. But I would like to see lockpicks used for power trading. ROFLMAO.

Well, can't sell it or give it to a friend even if they needed it, guess you have to sell it to the trader for a pitiful amount.

ectos would still fetch a decent price if they weren't used as super-currency, since you still need them for armor (look at shards)
